Kim Scott on "Radical Candor"

In her book "Radical Candor: Be a Kick-Ass Boss Without Losing Your Humanity," Kim Scott explores finding the sweet spot in management, somewhere between obnoxiously aggressive and ruinously empathetic. She details the traits a person must have to be a successful leader. From Business Insider.

The three most important factors I saw in this video combined together to explain to us the traits it takes to be a good boss. First off, establishing relationships with each of your employees is the first step. Doing this helps you get to know who works for you. Creating that connection is important in business. Second, helping achieve success with important feed back is an important task for becoming a great boss. Third, being a good partner to your team is also a must have in the workplace. Achieve all three of these goals is your set up for success in your business. If I had to ask my classmates a question about this video, it would be on the lines of asking, "Do you think that every boss has a personality type?" In the beginning of the video, it was said that they don't. Do you think this contributes to them as a whole?

There were some great points that I saw throughout the video. The first point that stood out the most is that there are a lot of absentee bosses. While I don’t believe them taking a step back is always intentional, i think most times bosses are trying to appease to their employees wants but aren’t finding the proper balance between micromanaging and letting go of the reigns a little. Secondly I do believe hat a great leader does have to form strong relationships with their employees in order for everyone to be successful as a whole. A leader could enforce good relations by helping out on an assignment or case. Lastly, all bosses should give constructive feedback if they expect their business to grow. The only thing I don’t agree with is the fact about leaders not having a personality. Everyone has some trait about them that defines them as a human being. If I had to ask my classmates a question it would be, have you ever had an absentee boss and why do you think they were that way?

This video gives great incites on how our current boss or previous bosses operated the business. Great bosses build relationships with their employees so that the employees feel comfortable, encouraged and understood in their work environment. Another important item would be building a great team. It would be complicated to run a business if everyone is not completing their responsibility properly. Great bosses also achieve results collaboratively, when they succeed the team succeeds. I would apply this video to my business in making sure that as the boss I make my employees realize that we are a team and trying to be as encouraging and helpful as possible.

Through this video I learned that there are three things that great leaders do. The first is forming relationships. You form relationships by creating a culture of feedback and not by socializing after work. The second thing great leaders do is create camaraderie between the leader and the others. Great leaders don't micromanage people. The third important thing great leaders do is not become a ghost. They stay involved

Three main points that i took away from this video is to not micromanage employees but to be around and pay attention to what everyone is doing. The second point would be to be partners with all your employees and not just a boss. Hear what they have to say and give guidance. Also don't just let everyone do what they want be there to be a boss and when in the right situations tell people what they should or should not be doing.
Questions for the class: What are some ways you would manage employees?

The three most important things that I gathered in this video are: great bosses act as a partner, form relationships, build a great team. First, they act as a partner, they have to find the balance between micromanaging and being and absentee boss. Second, they form relationships, the relationships they form are at work not trying to get your employees to like you after work. Lastly, they build a great team, without a cohesive team nothing runs smoothly. If I had to ask a question to my classmates on this for them to discuss, it would be: does your boss excel in all of these categories?

This video accurately describes the aspects of a great boss and leader. Of all the bosses I've had, the good ones exemplified these characteristics, while the less effective bosses were lacking in these aspects. Making the employee feel as though you are working alongside them, rather than above them, is a great way to build a relationship with them. Making someone feel like a partner builds excellent moral and can make a more loyal employee.

I learned three things from this video. I learned that a leader is to be a partner, build good relations and build a team. No one wants to have a leader who just tells them what to do. I leader is someone who gets their hands dirty with everyone else.

First, I learned that a great boss starts by forming a relationship with their employees. When a boss is a partner to each of their employees, it makes the employees want to work and enjoy their boss. Next, I learned about the three key responsibilities that can help a boss create those relationships. They are creating a culture of feedback, building a cohesive team, and achieving results collaboratively. Finally, I learned that it’s important to be a partner to each of your employees. No one wants an absentee boss or a boss who micromanages. When a boss builds those partnerships and follows the three keys to responsibilities, they become a boss that everyone wants to have. My discussion question for the class would be: Do you think your current or past bosses had these traits to be a successful leader? If not, what could they have done to be a better leader?

The three most important things I got from the video is to form a relationship with your employees, be a partner, and build a team. Formaing a relationship with employees lets them know that they are valued. That goes hand in hand with being a partner. It is never a bad thing to be humble about your beginnings. At one point before becoming a boss, you did the same thing the employees are doing. I respect bosses more if they are humble about their success and position. A question for the class would be: Have you ever had a manager that didn’t practice the things talked about in the video? Have you had one that did? What manager did you prefer to work with and why?

Bosses form relationships that help them create a culture of feedback to unite as a whole and achieve goals. Thus, these relationships thrive among teamwork. I would ask my peers how do you not micromanage, but not be an "absentee boss"? Where is the common ground and what other steps can you take to find this common ground? Personally, I like the idea of working as a team and giving constructive criticism.

The first point I thought important was that to be a successful boss, you have to connect with your employees. Get to know them. Secondly, don't micromanage your employees. Having someone stand over your shoulder analyzing everything you do is not comforting in any way. Let your employees work on the task and then assess the job they did when they are finished. Lastly, avoiding micromanaging doesn't mean being absent. Work with employee through their task, this will not only build camaraderie but it will ensure that the job is done correctly. Would you be an absent boss? Or a boss that builds relationships with your employees? I should apply this in my life by being more open to working as team at work and at school (group projects).

Three important things in this video were that great bosses form relationships with their employees, bosses want to be a partner sometimes, and being present in your business is important. I would ask my classmates, have you ever had a boss that didn't put much effort into the place you work at and was never present. Something I learned form this video is in order to be successful as a boss, you have to be present and create relationships with your employees.

The Three Most Important Things I Saw in the Video Were no to be an absent boss but to build a friendly relation ship with the employees. The second most important thing is that building a relation ship with the employees helps the work culture. The last thing I learned is that bosses build a good team that communicates with each other.
If I had to ask a question of my classmates on this for them to discuss, it would be if they have ever had a boss that was more friend than boss and have a different boss that was micromanaging. How did they transition to working for the each boss?

Three important traits that I learned in this video are that the leaders get to know their employees one on one. Secondly, the leaders have three ways to get to know the employees, 1) they create a culture of feedback 2) they build a great cohesive team, 3) and they achieve results collaboratively. Finally, to be a great leader, the leader shouldn't micromanage or just disappear from the corporation, they need to be present and owes the employees their thought process! A question I would ask my classmates would be, "What kind of leader do they have in their job/corporation?" And "Do you think it works for the job/corporation?"

Kim Scott highlights the traits that managers must have in order to be successful. Most importantly is that they have the ability to have a relationship or connection with their employees. There is nothing more satisfying than a high ranking official that has a relationship with his or her employees and is involved. It lets the employees know that managers care about them as employees and as people and creates a good work environment for everyone.

One of the things I learned from this video is that bosses don't really have a personality type. They have things that they do but no specific type. Second one of the things a great boss does is form relationship with his employees. This is a very important part of being a good's strong boss. Lastly, she said if somebody comes to work for you it's because they saw something in you. The boss owes them that partnership. I would ask the class if they had a great boss did they have any of these traits?

I actually used this video in my job now. It has honestly helped me manage my crew better and the work environment has been 100% better. The most important thing in this video to me is that you have to work with your team and you have to make sure everybody is achieving their goals through the company.
